Efficient and effective health impact.
Initiate and guide strategy, program design and implementation for health outcomes.
Allan is an experienced community Executive and has led development and delivery of local and national health programs and services through strategic planning, innovation, leadership and effective management. He has repeatedly played an influential role during significant and rapid business development through, insight, strategy and effective change leadership. Allan's strong record includes attracting funding to implement strategic community-based programs to address complex challenges at state and national level.
With recognised expertise in program design, development, implementation and evaluation of effective evidence-based programs to achieve economic and health impact, Allan's experience spans across health, youth, sport and community sectors.
Allan is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) Company Directors Course. He maintains abreast of the current and emerging issues for companies to ensure leadership and advice is aligned to best practice.
In almost 9 years at the Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF), Allan played a key role in strategy and health program design and implementation as the organisation moved from a fledgling on the national scene to become a significant and influential leader in community-based prevention. As an Executive leader at the ADF, Allan developed and implemented national programs that are now embedded in Australian Government policy to prevent and reduce harm from alcohol and other drugs.
As Allan stepped into Health Impact Solutions in 2020 he also worked with The Men's Project at Jesuit Social Services, partnering in business development with strategy, program design and submission of tenders with great successes over 18 months.
Like for most of us, 2020 also provided a pivot - for Allan it was into a high impact public health project during the COVID-19 pandemic with the Victorian Department of Health. A once in a generation opportunity to step into the absolute unknown and establish systems, leadership, training and a sense of calm to achieve many successful outcomes. With the world around changing on a daily basis, crisis management provides substantial learning and a sense of achievement.
Allan maintained a contemporary view of complex community issues through a two year project as Executive Director of Client Services with Barwon Child Youth and Family (BCYF), a community services organisation that has focused on building service quality while preparing to merge. Allan led a team of over 320 staff delivering a broad range of services for children, young people and families seeking support. Many people enter service support with complex needs.
A key focus over the last 12 months was to guide the strategy, culture and service design in preparation to successfully complete a merger.
Through Health Impact Solutions, Allan continues with his passion to lead impactful health and wellbeing outcomes with communities to bring about positive change. With many successful outcomes already, Health Impact Solutions is growing as a trusted partner for strategy, strategic program design, governance and risk management, interim management and funding submissions. Health Impact Solutions usually work in the engine room behind the scenes for success and rather than blast logos of partnership projects over websites, more information is available via direct contact.
Allan led the strategic planning, design and development of the ADF's Local Drug Action Team program, establishing over 240 community based partnerships across Australia. Local partners build health program strategy and work to prevent and minimise alcohol and other drug related harm in communities. This program is now embedded in the Australian Government policy to prevent and reduce harm from alcohol and other drugs and continues to support local communities across the country.
Allan was influential in the sustained growth and impact of Good Sports, Australia's largest and most successful health promotion program in sport. Good Sports guides clubs to develop policies and actions to become more sustainable - including alcohol management, mental health, healthy canteens and illegal drugs. Allan knows and understands what is important to sporting clubs, leagues and associations and how to practically influence change for clubs to thrive.
At a personal level, Allan has many years experience in various sports including tennis, gymnastics, Australian Rules football and mountain biking as a competitor, committee leader, coach and advisor. With a lifelong passion for sport and exercise, Allan has played many sports socially and has a great appreciation for those who come together to make it happen.
Having lived in regional and rural areas all his life, managing sport and recreation centres and community health promotion became an ideal pathway to generate a rich understanding of how communities, volunteers and sports can all come together through both the good and bad times.
In 9 years in leading roles with Good Sports, Allan oversaw it as it became the largest and most impactful health promotion program in sport, with around 10,000 clubs involved across the country.
Reboot sport was formed during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic to build resources and support for sports administrators. While some of the content on the website clearly reflects the priorities of the pandemic, many of the resources and guides are enduring. Community Issues continue to impact on sport, so even if a club or league is recovering from floods or bush fires or other challenge, reboot sport can assist.
Developing and implementing efficient and effective health programs is hard work. Communities are complex, funding is tight or short term, and program resourcing often limited. Health Impact Solutions offers services individually tailored to each organisation to be a trusted partner and strengthen health and community based strategic outcomes.
Funding drives sustainability. A strong program and strategy, along with effective funding submissions provides your best opportunity to produce the health outcome you are striving for.
Health Impact Solutions also provide contemporary grant and tender submission writing expertise.
